Are you building a new home or putting on an addition? Digging the basement includes first the stripping of topsoil and then the excavation of rock, dirt, and other debris to allow for the footings or foundation of the home.
Questions Before Starting to Excavate
-
There are many things to think about before the first scoop is dug. Before starting any project you will want to review the following with your builder/general contractor and excavator:
-
Where are the utilities on the lot and how will they affect where your home or septic system is placed?
-
Does the home you are building "fit" your lot type? Where will it fit best to align with your home type - full, exposed/walk-out, or a garage in the basement?
-
Am I on a public sewer/water or private system?
-
If on a private system, what type of system is required per the soil test? Where will the septic system be placed?
-
Am I meeting all the setback and lot line restrictions that are in place?
-
Are there any wetlands or other soil types that I need to be aware of?
